My work has always veered toward the figurative. In my collage pieces, I utilize the media to impart a liminal statement that enriches the basic subject matter. My work is both a study of unique culture and identity and a celebration of the divergence from the American societal norm. The conspicuous use of contemporary media, often at the very root of homogeneity in our society, is in sharp contrast to the subject matter that suggests a bygone era of cultural renaissance. The multilayered application of the media, which is sourced from recycled magazines and glossy publications, reflects the complex fragments of experience, beliefs, mores and virtues that are the very essence of every human. At cursory glance, these fragments have the painterly appearance of brushstrokes and create an illusion of wholeness.
